Chhath is the main festival celebrated enthusiastically in Janakpur. Chhath is also popular in some of the Indian states like Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. This puja is celebrated for 4 days and is dedicated to Sun and his wife Usha.
The nearest location you can travel from Janakpur is Jaleshwor and Dhanusha Dham. Jaleshwor is famous for the holy temple of Jaleshwarnath Mahadev, dedicated to Lord Shiva. Whereas, Dhanusha Dham is another worshiping place for Hindus. It is believed that when Lord Ram broke Shiva's Dhanush (bow) into three parts, one part fell at Dhanusha Dham. You can still see the remaining part of the Dhanush encompassed by temple.
